McDonald's Double Drive-Thru Location Stays Fully Operational During Asphalt Mill & Pave Project
Project Summary
Diamond Solutions worked with the corporate office of the iconic Golden Arches to repave the parking lot of a double drive-thru location near Grand Rapids, Michigan. Fast food just isn't the same when you take the "fast" out of it, so keeping the restaurant fully operational was a major priority during construction.
This project included an asphalt mill and overlay for areas of the parking lot in better condition, and there was also a full depth asphalt replacement for the route around the restaurant that experiences the highest traffic. The concrete portion of the drive-thru was in good shape and did not need to be replaced yet.

Executing The Project
PHASE 1: MILLING
4 inch milling across approximately 14,500 square feet and 2-inch mill work across roughly 16,500 square feet.
PHASE 2: BASE REINFORCEMENT & COMPACTING
Some high traffic areas were given special attention to compact and reinforce the base.
PHASE 3: PAVING
New asphalt was installed at depths of 4 inches and 2 inches.
PHASE 4: FRESH LINES
Custom drive-thru stencils were painted along with arrows and designated ADA parking.
Restaurant Keeps Serving Customers
The restaurant remained open and was able to serve customers throughout the project. Diamond used phased planning to ensure that key work was performed during off hours. We also coordinated with the restaurant so that deliveries were not impacted. Traffic control included routinely moving barricades around the restaurant as the work progressed. The milling and paving were completed within 2 days. Diamond returned a final day to stripe the parking lot and traffic lanes for an on-time completion.
